Hixon Preschool started as a small village playgroup over 20 years ago, running just two days a week from the village hall. The original Preschool had only three members of staff and accommodated up to fifteen children. Preschool staff had the arduous task of setting up the hall each day as other activities took place in the same space. The outdoor area was a small piece of land with a portacabin where the Preschool equipment was kept. By 2007 the Preschool was running two and a half days a week and was a vital resource for village parents and their children.
In 2009 the Preschool were offered the chance to move to beautiful new premises on the grounds of St Peters Primary School. The school had kindly offered space to the local council and plans were made for a brand new village children’s centre. Exciting times were ahead!
After much planning and discussion, it was decided that the Preschool would occupy the main room of the new premises from September 2009. As well as new premises, the Preschool would be extending their hours to three days a week. The new room was purpose built and allowed the Preschool to offer up to 22 children a place each day.
